Welcome to Language and Literacy Services!

At Language and Literacy Services, I know that speech, language, and literacy are interconnected— so therapy sessions will address all of the skills needed to ensure your child’s academic success.

Rather than taking a prescribed approach, personalized therapy sessions will consider your child's individual needs. The goal is to address the root cause of their reading struggles and help them gain confidence as they build new skills.

Parents, teachers, and therapists are all welcome to get involved to support progress outside of therapy sessions. Together, we will build a solid foundation for learning!

Language and Literacy Services also provides school contract services in WI, WA, and CA. Reach out for more information about virtual SLP services.

Meet Your Speech Therapist

Carrie Begalke, MS, CCC-SLP, SLI, CALP, speech therapist and dyslexia interventionist at Lake Country Speech and Dyslexia in Oconomowoc, WI

Carrie Begalke, MS, CCC-SLP, SLI, CALP

Owner, Speech-Language Pathologist, Dyslexia Interventionist

I am a speech therapist specializing in dyslexia who loves empowering children to read, write, and speak with confidence. With over 30 years of experience helping students of all ages overcome learning challenges and with my background as a special education director, I know that every child can succeed given the right support. My experience includes work in the settings of education, health care, juvenile justice, and private therapy, both virtually and in person.

My clinical specialty lies in treating language-based reading disorders. I have dedicated my career to understanding the link between language and literacy, allowing me to provide the most effective and evidence-based therapy approaches for children struggling with dyslexia and reading challenges.

In my practice, I take the time to learn about each of my students— their abilities, interests, and needs— and then help them build confidence through activities that are just right for their skill level. My students never face tasks that they haven't been given the tools to succeed in, which improves their willingness to try hard things.

Outside of work, I enjoy reading, boating, paddle boarding, quilting, traveling, and skiing. My husband and I have two adult daughters and a golden retriever named Minnie. I look forward to working with your family!

  • "Carrie has been an absolute game changer for our daughter."

“Carrie has been an absolute game changer for our daughter. I suspected something wasn’t clicking with reading for her, and once we saw her plummeting scores, I knew I had to find her the help she needed. Carrie was the perfect solution. Her knowledge, expertise, patience, and willingness to accommodate a reluctant reader have made a world of difference. Not only is my child finally making tremendous gains in reading, but her confidence has been restored. We are forever indebted to Carrie for everything she has done for our child.”

    ~ M.S., parent

  • "Carrie is very talented at what she does, and we appreciate the time she has spent helping our son."

“Carrie worked closely with our son at school to provide strategies to break down words, secure knowledge of correct letter and combined letter sounds, and increase his vocabulary. My son would say how much fun he had during his lessons with Mrs. Begalke, which was due to Carrie taking the time to understand his interests and incorporate them into his lessons. Carrie even went above and beyond to find books that catered to my son’s interests making reading less of a chore! Lastly, we appreciated the open communication between us, from answering all my questions to her explaining goals and recognizing achievements. Carrie is very talented at what she does, and we appreciate the time she has spent helping our son.”
